Idea: Alternative Taming System

Post by LupinaFerus » Mon Jul 20, 2015 9:56 pm

Hello there

I just had an idea about an alternative taming method

It's just a thought. It can be used for all, or special Dinos, maybe there could be different taming types for different dinosaurs.

What would you think about a taming system where you would narcotize the dinosaur until near unconsciousness so it can still walk but is no more aggressive and then tie it with a rope or something and bring it to your base and put it inside a fence or special tame construction.

And then following steps are required:
1. Feed it until the dino gets a littl confidence
2. try to put on a saddle (it can deny it if there isnt enough confidence)
3. Is the saddle on, you can try ride and break it in (It may throw you off, so it needs more attempts)

I was thinking about taming, because the actual taming method is nice and easy but also boring and at the first time I was like "I knock it to unconsciousness and after forcefeeding it is my best friend? ok weird"

There is also the possibility to add to each step extra actions like:

Step 1:
-Petting it in any way

Step 2:
-Add some narcotics to calm it to mount the saddle
-Doing things to calm it down. Walk slowly to it, "talking calm" or something
-Specially for this part maybe tying up the T-Rex Snout

Step 3:
-You could try to integrate some kind of "minigame" while on the saddle and if its just to hold the balance with the arrowkeys. Even better a "game" where you truly need skill to tame it. But the taming is still possible for "not as good as other people", just needs more time then.
Maybe there will be born a taming legend known all over the map "he can break in a TRex by first try, really? oh my gosh. What reflexes! Is he human?"
-More confidence makes it easier
-Maybe the dino looses some confidence if you fail, so you need to feed it a littl bit again before next try

I'm just mentioning it because it is so crazy easy to tame each dino, the only thing you need is time, killing all agressive dinos lurking around and not getting bored to hard.

With the alternative method you can bring that beast in your base and take your time to tame it, its not needed to do everything at once.

This is not a complete concept, there are still questions like "ok... bringing a untamed T Rex in your base, so....wont it be really angry after it woke up and try to eat you and destroy your base? What could prevent it"

As I mentioned, its maybe just one of different possible taming methods, that "tie with a rope and bring it walking to your base thing" will not work with birds. Maybe there you can build a special barrow and drag it to your home. Birds arent that heavy as normal dinos.

And for Dodos...., Im sure I can carry a Dodo by myself ^^ Or I just tell my Sabercat to carry it in its mouth like a kitty :)

Greetings Lupi
And yes english isnt my motherlanguage ^^ so sorry, for any disturbing grammar

I like the general idea of this. Especially good since it creates a kind of mini economy/renown for a player who has a "particular set of skills, skills ... acquired over a very long career".

I think anything to turn a pure grind mission into something dynamic is always a good move!

I think the idea is great! I just got the game and I'm thrown off by the amount of time you need to out into the game. Especially the taming system is a huge turn off!

I asked myself the same question as you... Beating up an animal then forcefeeding it doesn't make it loyal towards you...

I'm also fairly certain that zoo-keepers don't go to Africa, shoot a lion from the wild and bring it to a zoo... They would more likely breed it from pup to adult.

Why not adapt this concept to the game? I know the game has eggs in it, why not let us build a hatchery instead and then a sort of growing pen?

Here you would make sure they were fed (water/berry/meat trough), talk to them (interaction wheel) and train them before they are ready to be taken out.

This would also take away the pain of spending 6-8 hours trying to get a t-rex (I respect the ones that have done this, but this is so tedious)

That is an excellent idea!
I especially like the "Step 3". Taming as is it now is way too easy/unchallenging, especially if we consider that tamed dinos are a big part of the game. Taming animals should be really hard, depending on your level (or "taming skill") and the level of the monster. And it absolutely shouldn't be possible to tame an animal in a day (real-life time). The process should be long, challenging and cumulative; different animals would require different foods as well as different approaches. If we look at "dino dossiers", e.g. megalodon, it is almost impossible to tame it. And if we look the reality of it - being a massive fish in it's natural environment vs. human with tranquilizing arrows... yeah right ;)
The way I see it, strong animals would require cooperation of many people, with good organization, so for example taming a T-Rex would really be something special (unlike now, where almost every individual has one :))
Note: I'm creating a non-mainstream server, which has harsh conditions - like the Jurassic era would be, especially for human, so the above suggestion fits with that idea.
People who see life as anything more than pure entertainment are missing the point.
What I think is my personal opinion, it is true for me, and I'm not imposing it to anyone.
