Tons of new content is great, but the movement and combat in this game still feels horribly amateur and clunky to me. I know that adding content and working on more core functions of the game are not mutually exclusive, but the amount of content they are putting out, to me, feels like saying "we're happy with the underlying tech of the game, and now we're working on content and optimization."
But I'm curious if they have actually indicated what they feel still needs work. I just... really can't get into Ark because of the incredibly alpha-feeling movement and combat. It feels like some terrible free to play MMO from the 90s. Improving animations would help, but it needs a lot more than that. And... like... flight physics for birds instead of treating them like inertia-less harriers?
Have devs talked about how much they plan to rework the core of the game?

I often wondered if they would EVER optimize the game. First off I have over 700 hours in the game. Even outlasted the server my tribe was using, it vanished. I was using a high end laptop 4 core 3.5 GHz with a GTX 980m graphics card. I recently upgraded to a new desktop SLI rig. SLI does not work, my best run was 15min until a system hang. I tried everything, every setting available in nvidiainspector, but ended up having to turn SLI off. It runs nice at 2k graphics on the one nVidia GTX 980 Ti I have enabled with Epic and High everything but the AA kept to medium. I kept turning on various features until it maxed out the GPU at 99 percent and 97 percent of the available memory. I was able to turn on: Distance Field Shadowing, High Quality Materials and Simple Distance Character Moment. Any more and my graphics card would crash.... The graphics are great and the detail stunning. However the 6 core CPU only uses about 50-60 percent of the available processing power. They have to work on the graphics optimization and turn on the SLI program switch (it's there but they need to optimize the code A LOT first.)
Meanwhile I am perturbed that more and more critters are being added to the game without much, if any, graphics optimization going on.
Oh well! The new Tomb Raider is coming out in a few days, it's SLI Enabled, so I will be taking a break from ARK when it does.

I don't think they have really discussed much about it other than the taming. They want to rework the taming system so it's not extremely time consuming, considering not everyone has half their day to waste taming a Rex or a Quetzal on a video game.
In response to the above comment, you have to remember this game is barely even a beta. They're adding more critters to the game because those critters have been planned to be added before the game officially releases. (As in those creatures are meant to be in the full game at release date. They've not said whether they'll add more post release or not.)
