Note: Mod I chose newbie because this was my first build in this game, feel free to move this if you feel it fits better else where.
So I got Ark on the 19th. A friend of mine was already playing the game with a small tribe called “the buzzards” so I joined them as they started on a new server. (the-EU-officalserver 182) Over the next 10 days he and another put in over 130 hours, I put in just over 100 hours and two others put in between 50 – 100.
We built a base with the first floor big enough to walk steggos through. There was also a mezzanine, second floor and a hangar on top for the birds and smaller things like dilos. We had upgraded all of the foundations to metal, and most of the first floor walls. We had a sizable dino pen encompassing the base keep the dinos and providing an exterior defensive layer. There were metal spikes around the length of the wall and the wall at the time was all stone. The base had a fab, generator, grill, fridge and two turrets, one on the first floor and one up stairs. The base was constructed defensively. (lots of walls and doors.)
For dinos at the base location we had 1 mammoth, 3 steggos, 1 trike, 2 para, 2 cats, 2 rolly pollies, 2 argents, 3 taras, 1 carno, 3 anklyos, 2 sharks in the water pen down the hill and a number of smaller things. We were discussing whether we should tame a bronto or a rex next. The point here being the time involved in all the taming we did. I would guess at least a total of 50 hours in taming.
When I logged in on the 29 it was all gone. Well the most of the exterior wall of the base was still standing but not much else. All the dinos were gone save the rolly pollies, all the equipment was gone. In asking what happened in chat, I was informed that a tribe called freelance had visited with around 200 grenades and 2 level 200 t rexes. This information came from someone in the tribe freelance so I have no reason to doubt it. When I asked why he claimed that someone in my tribe had called him a dick. I don’t know if that’s true or not but if it is it was accurate as freelance players were killing us on sight prior to the raid.
I have been gaming for over 20 years and cannot think of a time off hand when I have lost so much in a game (over a combined total of 400 man hours of effort) because of another player, either provoked or as in our case unprovoked (we never attacked them in any way) Please understand this is not a complaint about my specific story and freelance. This is an observation of the mechanics of the game.
When you have a game where a (or a number) player can be a troll, there will inevitably be at least one troll. All the building we did was for nothing. Freelance has enough power to where all they have to do is fly around the island and flatten anyone they deem unworthy once a week on Saturdays and no one else can play in their shadow if they don’t allow it. And there is no theoretical defense that will stop another player with enough grenades or C4.
So this is not only my troll story it is also a call for suggestions. I was loving this game until everything I worked for was completely destroyed by a troll. I would like to start over and rebuild the question is where? 182 was allegedly a “friendly” server and that turned out to be not the case. Don’t get me wrong, most were friendly but the superpower wasn’t and in the end that’s all that really matters. There is obviously no point in rebuilding on that server as the events described above will inevitably repeat themselves. I am hesitant to play on and server where a player can destroy at a whim what I have worked so hard to create. As far as PVE servers I haven’t tried one yet myself but I have heard nasty rumors that players on those servers troll by putting walls around the chitin caves and because you can’t go through them it simply cuts off that resource from all the other players. Can any one confirm or deny that form of trolling in PVE?
Is there a way to play this game where I can build and tame without the risk of being crushing by another player? Cause that’s a lot of time and investment destroyed.
*Sigh* Like I said I have NEVER been trolled this hard.
