New Server, New Character?

Hi,

So I started playing the game and just picked a random server, didnt even look at the name of it. Then I came off for a bit and then when i went back on it asked me to create a new character. Is this because you have a different character for different servers or do i need to save? What am i missing?

Different characters for different servers, unless the server specifically allows character downloading. You can Upload your character (and even creature) data at an Obelisk and then, should it be allowed, download onto a new server, as this short video explains...

Not that I have done this myself up to now, but like you I was also curious about this.
