First, I'd like to compliment the developers! Ark: Survival Evolved is an incredibly fun game with lots to offer its players. I enjoy the environment and realism. I love the opportunity for allegiance and rivalry; For expansion and destruction; For a self-policing server, or a tyranical oppresion. However, in a short month and a half I have repeatedly seen the player base quit and struggle to find the resolve to continue or restart playing on the Ark. Not for lack of fun and innovative things to do! Most are even willing to deal with the (currently) atrocious latency issues; something that has murdered other games in the alpha and beta stages.
The worst thing about this game is Offline raiding. As a huge fan of PvP I think offline raids should remain on the table, however there exists a soul-crushing imbalance. With a few hours played and a little Youtube, anyone can get into virtually any base in less than an hour. The amount of time required to build vs. destroy is not equivalent. Online Raids would be so much more fun. To know your enemy and face them off with your infrastructure and dinos and your time spent playing used to defend yourself. No one home to defend is not realistic.
In short, I would like to suggest an Offline Defense Multiplier. Not so high as to make anything impregnable, but large enough to ensure that any offline raid would need to be poignant and for the procurement of resources; not the destruction of the will to play the game. After all, isn't a persistent player-base the point of hosting/creating a game witha persistent environment?
