unable to kill dinosaurs. Dinosaurs dont die from being attacked by other dinos. unable to tame dinosaurs

I am very new to the game of Ark. Have been watching it closely tho and decided to take the plunge. However, playing sp i can not kill dinosaurs even when i am level 12 or what not and they can be level 1 or 3 etc. Tried pick axe. Spear and even grabbed a level 100 pike from console and nothing shot 150 arrows into a level 4 turtle nothing.
Dinosaurs attack each other but never die. As with above 1 dino be like level 34 the other level 3. Nothing.
Level 12 i am. Beating the absolute bejeevers out of a way lower dino then my level is and it don't die it don't go unconscious nothing.
Now i will try to uninstall and reinstall. Also the settings are very confusing.
