I am also crashing whenever entering or exiting caves. The only way to prevent this is to just stay away from the caves. You can mine crystals on mountains though. As far as I know it is not fixable. I have encountered this same bug several times and couldnt fix it. I just had to completely reset my level 75 character because of it. The only thing i can suggest is to stay away from the caves.
